- Separate your budget into four categories: Lodging, Transportation, Activities, and Meals.
- When setting up a transportation budget, remember to consider buses, taxis, subways, ferries and train passes.
- When setting a budget for lodging, remember the rule of thirds. They say one-third of your total travel budget will be spent on accommodations. Remember: with a cruise vacation, accommodations, meals, and onboard entertainment are all rolled into one and you can take advantage of suites or connecting cabins.
- Make your vacation goals realistic, as a family. Ask every one what they 're really expecting out of this vacation. Is it packed with activities, is it sunning on the deck with a good book, is it horseback riding on the beach? These goals come with different monetary implications, so decide together as a group.
- Plan your itinerary ahead of time and research local museums, zoos and aquariums to see if you can use reciprocity programs as part of your existing memberships. You can often take advantage of free admission when you do
Keep these easy tips in mind and you'll be spending smiles before you know it.
